To make the playing experience fun and dynamic for all players – rookies and old-timers – various game modes have been introduced to create that personal flair for different play styles and for trying out new weapons and legends. Apart from this, the game maps are usually rotated after every two hours, ensuring players get to explore from Storm point’s tropical and sandy beaches to World’s Edge Dry and Hot landscapes.
Currently, there are 5 game modes present in Apex Legends, namely:
Training
This is the simplest game mode, where new players are first initiated to the game. The instructor – currently Bloodhound – trains new players on game controls, movement mechanics, instructions on weapons, and survival kits in a low-spaced playable area of the King’s Canyon’s map.
This game mode is specially suited for beginners and newbies, as it helps them get the ropes when trying out Apex Legends for the first time.
Firing Range
This game mode utilizes the same map as the previous game mode, with the addition of a more hands-on training approach, as Apex players are able to invite their friends to fill in their squads and make up for an advanced training experience against dummies as well as against themselves when turning on friendly fire.
Firing range is most preferred when trying out new legends and seeing how they fair up with other legends, in terms of character abilities, perks, and overall team strength.
Battle Royale
Most importantly, Apex Legends is best known for its Battle Royale gameplay, where 20 teams of three unique legends (Squad) or 30 teams of two unique legends (Duo) are paired against enemy teams in a given map and fight each other to the last man standing. Battle royale has the highest player base due to its diverse, enormous yet easily traversable maps, different wildlife, fast-paced gameplay, and innovative player revival features once shot or downed.
Battle Royale is the number one game mode Apex Players aspire to master, as it is also quite the hardest to get the grasp on and consistently win matches. This is due to the different play styles and abilities adopted by the different legends. It also has the Ranked game mode, where players are put into matches with similarly skilled players (rank).
Arenas
This is a new game mode added in the game’s season 9 titled “Legacy”. Arena pits two squads of three players against each other in three rounds or more. The team with the leading point ahead of the other is declared the winner in the third round. Players are equipped with some cash they can use to purchase any weapon. As more rounds are played and more scores earned, players are able to purchase higher-tier weapons, survival kits, and abilities they can use during the match.
Though not as popular as Battle royale mode, Arenas offer casual players and even competitive ones a chance to train as a team against real enemies and work on their communication, teamwork, strategies as well as try out weapons and legends fit for their team chemistry. Like Battle Royale game mode, there is also a Ranked Arena mode for an evenly balanced gameplay.
Time Limited Modes (TLMs)
These are often time-themed events that are usually offered for play on a temporal basis. These modes offer a unique and fresh spin on the game by giving Apex Players a chance to experience the online shooter game through innovative gameplay.
A noteworthy example is the Winter Express, where three squads fight to capture the Train in the northeast corner of World's Edge. Here, Legends choose between predetermined loadouts that cycle daily and respawn each round if killed.
Other clever TLMs implemented in the past include; Armed and Dangerous, ShadowFall, LIVE.DIE.LIVE, Third Person Mode, and many others
